Meet Hog of Faern-Laega Art Dolls.  He is the wild thing of  the town... a low rider if you will.  Hog has American patriotic influences on his skull...the eagle is spectacular.  His chin, a nod to the good ole' days of flower power. Hog is an aged biker... look at that rat tail.     Doo-rag, of  "red white and blue".  Off  black "leather" studded jacket holds a pack of smokes: Camels. Biker boots painted with flames.   He stands 15 inches.
All clothing for Hog was custom  fitted to his body no patterns.

Those who dwell in Faern-Laega are asking,"What happened to Grace"?   Grace is sweet.  She has a deep soul....yes she does.   Grace is my own creation with the exception that her blood tears were inspired from an unknown artists picture. Highly detailed with trims and handbeading, Grace is dressed completely in black from her bonnet, dress, pantaloons, to the Mary Jane booties I made for her.....all black and nothing but black.   That being said Grace is hard to photograph.  I will be taking more pictures of Grace and you can see her detail.  It is true a picture is worth a thousand words but.....if you only could see her in person.....we welcome you to visit and fall in love with Grace.  More later!

Up Close with The Bride and Groom

                                                  ....Until Death Us Do Part
copyright 2010 all rights reserved

This Day of The Dead Bride and Groom was one of my visions that I brought to life.  I am so pleased.   I  thought about these two for  6 months.  I had no pattern for the clothes....The bride's dress is of an unknown fabric.....it was an ideal choice for this dress.  I created her medieval style ring-bracelet ....she will never lose it and to the groom's satisfaction the ring cannot be removed.   Her boa is  of the softest white feathers with a hand sculpted snake skull and rattler end.  A gentle plume of feather on her head is the perfect frame for her  most glorious face.
The Groom  without doubt has found his love ....you can see it in his eye(s).  His tux,  a classical  Mexican 1920's look.   The hat sets low on his forehead....( she  may have to keep a short leash on this man).  I crafted the walking stick.  A fob and  movable chain with a key falling from his hand ....must unlock the hidden lock....I will never tell.
Sometime I hold back  when I am adding details....I didn't not on this piece.   I spent a great deal of time on this couple.  I should have been working on Christmas items for the store....NO....I needed to make the bride and groom and I am so glad I did.  They are going to a perfect forever home to live with my other two Day of The Deads, " Peace" and "Joy"...Merry Christmas Barb!

They will live forever in the memories of the those who dwell in FAERN-LAEGA.

Day Of The Dead

I welcome you to follow this site!

Meet  Joy and Peace... Day of the Dead dolls.
I had the best time bring a spirit to these dolls.
Lots of time and detail. It was worth every second.  The base doll  pattern is from Frowning Francis....I took it from there.  Both dolls  have wood supports to make them stand.
Hats are removable and you can place them in their hands.
The "public" parasol stand is also removable....
but why would you?
So many ways to display this fun and not frightful pair.  Joy is graceful and beautiful .  Her dress is multi layered she has black beads on her shoes..
Peace is a little rough around the edges.  He was a '60's guy...he is wearing a tee shirt, tie, and a bit of a designer boot .   It is hard to see all the little details.  If you would like more pictures..no problem.
For now ...they are not for sale.  You can inquire though!
Peace  to You!

Meet Betty and Mavis Anne  ...known to all as" The Swimmers"  They are the newest inhabitants at Faern-Laega.  This  was a fun pattern designed by Sally Lampi.  I think beginners may run into some difficulties at first.. the rewards will bring  smiles though.  How you paint the face as well as positioning of the dolls on their post will add to the individual personalities.  Go crazy with the fabric combinations.   I mounted the swimmers on  lake-aged wood.  This piece with wood base measures 17 inches by 12 inches high.  Now listed on my selling blog.

Soleil  is my first Art Doll to be listed  under the Faern-Laega label.  This an interesting pattern.  Thought provoking at times but you just work through  the issues.  I will make this again.  I am drawing a blank on the designer of the pattern . I will  find the name when I get back to the pattern room .
Soleil has been "keeper of the store"  he is my boy!.....Soleil is now  looking for a forever, doll loving , home.    He will be listed on the Maple Leaf Mercantile site with in the next few months.  If you are interested you may contact me before then.

Madame  Flutterfly  was tons of fun to make. She has attitude.   Madame's wings  are painted  silk just like really butterflies no two can possibly be the same.   The pattern allows you  be the artist/creator.     Make sure you get the right silk.  I tried  3  before I was pleased with the results. A light hand is helpful.

Next  Project :  THE SWIMMERS  stay tuned!
